Origination, bureau calls, and credit decisioning on one path — so dealers and applicants were not waiting on a back-office batch.
The situation
Applications arrived from dealers by email and portal. Credit checks ran overnight. Customers who were ready to buy on Saturday heard back on Tuesday. Collections still used a different customer ID than origination.
What we did
- Rebuilt the application capture so dealer and direct channels posted to the same origination service.
- Moved bureau and policy checks into the request path with timeouts and fallbacks the credit team defined.
- Versioned the scorecard and kept a challenger model in shadow until the credit committee signed off.
- Issued a single customer key into servicing so payments and statements matched the loan that was booked.
What changed
- Eligible applicants can receive a decision while they are still with the dealer.
- Credit can change a policy rule without a code freeze.
- Servicing and origination finally share one customer record.
