Automated regulatory reporting for a capital markets desk

Automated regulatory reporting for a capital markets desk

A unified data platform that pulled trade, position, and reference data into one reporting layer — cutting the month-end scramble.

The situation

Three jurisdictions, four source systems, and a reporting pack that still lived in shared drives. Analysts spent the last week of every month reconciling extracts. When a control question came in, nobody could show lineage without a war room.

What we did

  • Built a controlled landing zone for trade and position feeds with timestamps and source hashes.
  • Defined a reporting mart with explicit mappings the compliance team owned, not a black-box ETL.
  • Automated exception queues so breaks showed up the morning after trade date, not at month-end.
  • Added an evidence pack — who changed what mapping, when — for internal audit.

What changed

  • Manual compilation effort dropped by more than half on the core monthly pack.
  • Exception ageing became visible; most breaks were cleared inside two business days.
  • Audit requests that used to take a week now start from a lineage screen.
